Game Jam Titans

Game Jam Titans, a game development competition, was held by Nasscom at all major Indian cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. The competition challenged young game designers and developers to develop PC based games based on the given theme and within a duration of 48 hours. The teams developing best games in each city were awarded exciting prizes.

In Chennai, the Game Jam Titans was held at Hindustan University campus. It was a 3 days event. Many teams of students and professionals from various parts of India eagerly participated in the event. The teams were asked to stay in the campus from 22nd of August, 2014 to 24th of August, 2014.

On the first day, the themes were announced for the teams to start their development. The themes were "Dungeon" and "Speed", based on which the teams were asked to develop a PC based game. Duration of 48 hours was awarded for the teams to submit their work.

Once the themes were announced, the teams enthusiastically started their work with idea generation. The next day, the teams started to design their games. Finally on 24th of August, 2014, the teams presented their games.

In Bangalore, a team of UG students (2011-2014) of ICAT participated in the competition, representing our college. They secured the First place in the city.

The winning team got free passes to attend the Nasscom Game Development Conference, which would be conducted on 13th, 14th and 15th of November, 2014. They were also awarded an opportunity to have a free stall representing their game to the publishers during the conference. They also won a 2k worth gift voucher from Flipkart. 


Ganesh Chathurti Celebrations at ICAT

The students of ICAT Design and Media College celebrated Ganesh Chathurti on the eve of the festival, with great gusto and zest. With respect to the celebrations, two competitions were held, which were based on conceptualizing and creating statue of Ganesha.

The first competition held for the entire day, during which the students were asked to conceptualize and create a Ganesha statue from scratch. The students of B.Sc. Multimedia and B.Sc. Media Technologies participated in the competition. They used materials, such as Plaster of Paris, Clay, Papier-Mâché and Pins to create some fantastic models on an array of novel themes.

Mr. Praveen Chrispugg presided over the contest and said that he was very impressed with the effort put in by all the students. He declared the 6-pack Ganesha as the winner for its concept. He was very happy to see the right attitude in the students to look upon God as a friend, one amongst themselves, rather than a larger-than-life being. He also said that he was very impressed by the innovation in thought and encouraged the students to keep trying and be different.

The second competition was on the spot, ‘Make and Decorate Your Ganesha Idol’. Keeping in mind the time limit, students used materials such as textured and waste paper, wet mud, vegetables and fruits, paper cups and thermocol, electronic circuits and wires. The students created some innovative models, such as:

Mr. Praveen Chrispugg was the judge for this event as well. The students of M.Sc. Multimedia were awarded the first prize for their masterpiece – Transformer Ganesha. Mr. Praveen also appreciated the team behind the Paper Cup Ganesha for their hard work and effort, and the team behind Origami Ganesha for their research and clean execution. Overall, it was a great event and the students got to understand the importance of ideation, teamwork, communication and most importantly presentation.

Pencil Box - Student Showcase 2014 at ICAT, Bangalore

ICAT Bangalore hosted Pencil Box the student showcase at Alliance Francaise De Bangalore on 23 rd and 24 th May 2014. The event showcased student work in the area of Typography,Graphic Design,Advertising,Fashion Design,Concept Art and Idea Generation.

The event was inaugurated by Mr Ramesh Ramnathan Award winning National creative Director from the Advertsing Industry,in the presence of Mr Kumar CEO Image Infotainment , RAH Mrs Varsha Shelar,faculty team and the students.

The Chief Guest and Mr Kumar went around the exhibits as the students presented the work to them.Later Mr Ramnathan had an informal interaction with the students where he spoke about the importance of time management,creative exploration and achieving excellence in work.
The theme of Pencil Box was beautifully reflected with Giant hand made pencils placed strategically in big artistic boxes which were hand painted,these and the student work was much appreciated by the hundreds of students and others who visited the show.
