Fashion and Photography students of
ICAT, Bangalore were given a new insight to Fashion Photography by Mr.
Uday Reddy, by introducing them to the pitfalls of becoming a
professional Fashion Photographer.
Mr. Uday Reddy, a full-time
Art Director and Fashion Photographer, addressed our students in a
‘Fashion Photography’ workshop on 12, 13 and 16 May, 2016. He has been
freelancing for fashion brands like Tanishq, PN Rao, F Square, Gold Plus
and Diamond Jewelry. He has also carried a few concepts and catalogue
shoots for clients like Shristi and Purple Pony.
The first day
of the workshop was majorly interactive, where Mr. Uday ran through some
of his work and demonstrated the basics of strobe lighting,
conceptualizing and creative thinking. The students were introduced to
the business-side of fashion photography, like how to understand a brand
and product. Mr. Uday spoke about catalogues, look books and visual
merchandising, and shared his significant real-time experiences on how
to deal with problems on-location.

A convocation program for ICAT’s fresh graduates of degree courses
validated by Birmingham City University & University of Wales was
organized on 14 May, 2016, at Hotel Fortune JP Cosmos, Cunningham Cross
Rd, Bengaluru.
The objective was to celebrate the students who
have successfully met the academic and extracurricular requirements for
graduation. The ceremony provided a public venue, where the graduating
students received their diplomas and made up to meet their old friends.
The flame of a lamp always burns upwards and similarly one should
acquire such knowledge that takes us towards higher ideals. The ceremony
kick started with lighting of lamp by our distinguished guests, Prof.
Aftab Gharda, Prof. Panch Suntharlingam, our CEO Mr. Kumar, Chief
Technical Officer Mr. Anand and the Academic Head Mrs. Shaswati.

The UG Photography students of ICAT
Design & Media College, Bangalore were steered to build their skills
in documentary photography through a 2-day workshopby Mr. Vivek
Muthuramalingam on 21stand 22ndof March, 2016. Vivek is an independent
Photographer and Visual Journalist based out of Bangalore. In his
documentary work, Vivek seeks for ideas that serve humanitarian
purposes. He strives to dedicate his abilities for projects that can
illustrate and inform socially-relevant, ecologically-urgent and
culturally-important themes that can perhaps help serve a greater cause
of change and sustenance.
During his two-day workshop, the
students were taught how to visualize a story using visuals and generate
editorials.On day one,Mr. Vivek explained how to show emotion in a work
and create an impact, through his projects which was quite inspiring
for the students. The workshop also created an opportunity for the
students to analyze some famous documentary photographers’ works, such
as David Alan Harvey, Martin parr and Nick Turpin.

ICAT Design and Media College,
Bangalore held a 3-day ‘Product Photography’ workshop on 18, 19 and 20
April, 2016. The workshop was handled by Mr. Girjesh Prakash, a
Bangalore-based Photographer, who has worked with brands like Rasna,
Vijaya Bank, TajTea, Maruti and TVS. He has specialized in Product
Photography and has shot a wide array of products in the past 30 years.
Girjesh is also a Tutor, educating the younger masses with his knowledge
and experience in the field.
The 3-day workshop catered to
over 25 students of Advertising, Design and Photography specializations.
The first day was an interactive session, in which Girjesh escorted the
students through his portfolio and details of his experience of working
with different brands. Post to that, the students were open to ask
queries about the practice. The students tagged along pretty well with
the guest for his immaculate friendly and transparent behavior.

In continuation of the previous fashion
workshop from Makka studios, ICAT Design & Media College arranged a
2-day “Fashion Photography & Studio Lighting” workshop by Mr.
Prateek Singhi for the UG Photography students.
The goal of
this workshop was to educate the students in studio lighting and how to
manage a team during a fashion shoot. Mr. Prateek made students observe
and read, not to mention the chance to talk about their own thoughts.
On the first day, students were trained to acquire strong fundamental
skills in photography lighting and to fine tune their skills towards
becoming successful Fashion Photographers. A live shoot was arranged, in
which the students were allowed to direct a professional female model
and to work with professional Stylists and Makeup Artists.
